Loxwood Canal
Loxwood Canal
Walk the canal at Loxwood. This walk is generally very safe for dogs and the canal is safe for dog swimming, the only things to be careful of are the canal boat in the summer, cows in surrounding fields and ducklings/signets in late spring.
Start the walk at the car park located behind the Onslow arms, drive through their car park and through the gate.
Head right along the tow path, this goes for approx 2miles, passing two locks and with the river nearly always on your right. you will emerge onto Drungewick lane soon after the aqueduct. This is where you have a choice.
1) carry on along the canal to the end
2) turn left walk up the road until you come to a farm on your left, go through the farm and down a rough track (I suggest dogs are on lead for previous bit). Shortly after entering the wood, there is a footpath on your right by a pond, take this and continue straight ahead (do not take right turn). You will emerge into a field, ahead there is a hedge, head for this and walk on the left, continue for a few hundred yards until the canal appears on your left, Turn left over the bridge then right to take you back to car park
3) turn right continue up the road for about half a mile, the footpath goes right down a private drive at the boarding kennels. Keep straight ahead down the center of a wide hedge, when you get into the wood turn left, approximately 100yds turn right follow the path ahead. When you come out of the wood you will be alongside pony paddocks and a smallholding (I suggest dogs on leads). When you get to the drive turn right then right again, turn left by old mill and follow path back to canal near car park
